Post by Dieter Fri Jul 04, 2008 12:47 pm

I'm planning to assemble a new Pc, Advice pleaseWhich config is better - 1.Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H  +  AMD Phenom X4 9750  ( approx 17k/-)Or2. Asus P5K + Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz E8400 (approx 17.5k/-)The only thing is with 2nd config I've to use graphics card which is spoling the budgetI'll be buying Dell 24" LCD with true 1080p resolution for watching HD DVD's & Blue Ray discs. so let me know whether I need a graphics card or not.Pc will be used for the following -1. Watching DVD's & all HD content without hicups.2. Encoding, decoding, archiving etc.3. Absolutely No Gaming.Main thing is MB+CPU Budget 18K max.rest config I'll ask later Regards

If you plan on watching anything that remotely offers resolutions that a Blue Ray Disk or true HD video offer , you will need a GFX card in your config & that too a good one .

I guess an 8600GT wont harm that setup its for just 3-4k

let me know if 780G chipset is capable of playing true HD ? I guess it's the best chipset with onboard graphics.if not then surely I'll go for a cheap GFX card, please suggest that too& if I add Gfx  card then I will go for an intel config only

yes 780G chipset is truely delivered HTPC environment for playing HD video... also it has the best IGP so go for option 1... best buy for ur work just add 2Gb or more RAM on it and enjoy...

for the Intel setup for HD video playback u will have to spent another 3-4K, Total = 21-22K for the same purpose...

u decide now

Plan changed a little.

Intel config -

E8400 + Asus P5Q (approx. 17500/-)

Amd Config -

AMD Phenom X4 9750 + Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H (approx. 17k/-)

first let me know which one is better (overall performance)

I'm looking for these 4 items MB+CPU+PSU+RAM (max budget 25k)
once again remind u all my requirements -
Cpu intensive work such as - encoding, archiving, video conversions etc.
Playing HD DVD Blu ray etc on a 24" Lcd

now here's the confusion -

If I go for the Amd I got around 8k left for ram & smps, I guess overall permorfance can't be compared with intel config but I can select a good ram

If I go for Intel I've to adjust a Gfx card also within the budget & with Gfx card I'm sure I need a costly Psu & budget for ram is also reduced. (I can adjust 2K more for intel if it's worth it)

Ram - ??(you decide for both intel & amd)
Psu - ??(you decide for both config)Graphics Card (required with intel config) - ? you decide

now tell me what to do.

Best Regards,Very Happy

Look for nVidia Geforce 8600GT 256mb Graphics card. It should cost anything from 3500 to 4200 depending on the vendor.

This card will play any kind of HD video on any LCd of any size.

I hope you find this helpful.
